Does Transtore support hreflang tags?

Many merchants ask whether Transtore creates or manages hreflang tags for multilingual stores. The short answer is: Shopify handles hreflang tags automatically, while Transtore focuses on translating and localizing your store content.

How Shopify handles hreflang tags

Shopify includes built-in international SEO support for multilingual stores.

When you publish multiple languages using Shopify Markets, Shopify automatically generates:

  • Hreflang tags
  • Canonical URLs
  • International sitemaps
  • Language-specific URLs

This helps search engines understand which language version of a page should be shown to customers in different regions.

For example:

  • French: /fr/products/shirt
  • German: /de/products/shirt

Shopify automatically connects these pages using hreflang tags so search engines recognize them as language variations rather than duplicate content.

Transtore's role

Transtore focuses on content translation and localization.

Transtore helps merchants translate:

  • Product content
  • Collection content
  • Pages and blogs
  • Meta titles and meta descriptions
  • URL handles
  • Navigation and store content

Once the translated content is published, Shopify automatically applies the corresponding international SEO signals, including hreflang tags and canonical URLs.

Important note

Transtore does not create, modify, or manage hreflang tags directly.

Hreflang tags are generated and maintained by Shopify's international SEO system. As long as your languages are properly published and configured in Shopify Markets, Shopify will automatically generate the required hreflang tags.

Need to customize hreflang tags?

If you need advanced customization of hreflang tags, canonical URLs, or other technical SEO settings, those changes must be handled within Shopify or through custom theme development.
